MRCOOL DIY Mini Split Accessories Guide: Single-Zone & Multi-Zone Accessories

Brandon Guzman

MRCOOL DIY Mini Split Accessories Guide: Single-Zone & Multi-Zone Accessories Buying a MRCOOL® DIY® mini split is only the beginning of planning a complete installation. Whether you’re installing a single-zone MRCOOL DIY system or a DIY 5th Generation Multi-Zone system, the right accessories can make the installation cleaner, help protect the equipment, provide additional control options, and make it easier to finish the project correctly. But not every accessory fits every MRCOOL system. Line-set diameter, condenser size, BTU capacity, mounting requirements and individual model compatibility can all affect what you need. This MRCOOL DIY accessories guide explains some of the most useful accessories to consider before, during and after installation—and what you should verify before ordering. MRCOOL DIY 5th Gen Multi Zone 👉 Shop Now MRCOOL DIY 5th Gen Multi Zone 👉 Bundle Builder  Mrcool DIY 5th Gen 👉  Installation  and owner’s manual  What Accessories Are Available for a MRCOOL DIY Mini Split? Depending on your exact system and installation, accessories can include: R-454B DIY Quick Connect line sets and compatible couplers Communication cable MRCOOL LineGuard® line-set covers MRCOOL condenser risers CoolGuard condenser stands/brackets CoolGuard equipment pads MRCOOL condenser wall-mounting kits MRCOOL Mini-Stat Electrical and surge-protection accessories Condensate accessories Cleaning and maintenance products Some accessories are useful for both Single-Zone and Multi-Zone systems, while others have specific equipment or capacity requirements. The important rule is simple: Never choose a mini-split accessory by appearance alone. Verify compatibility with your exact MRCOOL model before ordering. 1. MRCOOL R-454B DIY Quick Connect Line Sets For a MRCOOL DIY installation, one of the first accessories to consider is the refrigerant line set. Current MRCOOL DIY 5th Generation systems use R-454B precharged Quick Connect line sets in equipment-specific diameters and lengths. Depending on the equipment, current DIY line-set families include: 1/4” × 3/8”1/4” × 1/2”3/8” × 5/8” Factory lengths include 16, 25, 35 and 50 feet, depending on the particular line-set SKU. For Multi-Zone installations, don’t assume every indoor unit needs the same line-set length. Measure the actual route from each indoor unit to the condenser. Why line-set size matters The correct length isn’t enough. The line-set diameter must also match the equipment. This is particularly important because some indoor-unit capacities can appear in more than one MRCOOL line-set family. Verify the exact model instead of choosing a line set from BTU capacity alone. MRCOOL DIY 5th Gen Multi Zone 👉 Shop Now MRCOOL DIY 5th Gen Multi Zone 👉 Bundle Builder  Mrcool DIY 5th Gen 👉  Installation  and owner’s manual  2. MRCOOL Quick Connect Couplers What happens when the installation route requires more line than one factory line set provides? A compatible MRCOOL DIY Quick Connect coupler may allow compatible precharged line sets to be joined for an extended installation. However: The coupler must match the line-set size and compatible equipment. A 50-foot factory line set is also not automatically the maximum allowable total line length for every system. Always verify the allowable line length for the exact equipment being installed. This accessory can be especially important in Multi-Zone projects where one indoor unit may be located considerably farther from the condenser than another. 3. Communication Cable A Multi-Zone system needs a connection between each indoor unit and the outdoor equipment. MRCOOL identifies 14/4 stranded copper communication cable with 600V-rated insulation for most of its systems. However, don’t automatically add separate communication wire to every order. Some MRCOOL DIY line-set SKUs include communication cable, while other versions do not. For example, MRCOOL uses a C designation on certain current line-set SKUs that include cable. Important Communication cable is not the same as the main electrical branch-circuit wiring supplying the outdoor condenser. Check what’s included with the products you’re buying before adding extra cable. 4. MRCOOL LineGuard® Line Set Covers A mini split can work perfectly and still look unfinished if refrigerant lines, communication cable and drainage are left exposed down the side of the house. That’s where MRCOOL LineGuard® comes in. MRCOOL MLG450 — White The MRCOOL MLG450 LineGuard is a protective exterior line-set cover for MRCOOL ductless mini split systems. The kit covers approximately 12 feet of refrigerant line and includes: Three 4-foot straight sections + bend + wall-hole cover + interconnecting pieces. The white finish works particularly well against light siding, trim and exterior walls. MRCOOL MLG450-G-01 — Gray Want something darker? The MLG450-G-01 Gray LineGuard is 4.5 inches (114 mm) wide and provides approximately 12 feet (3.66 m) of coverage. Its gray finish can blend better with certain exterior finishes while helping organize and protect the installation. MRCOOL MLG450-T-01 — Tan MRCOOL also offers the MLG450-T-01 Tan LineGuard. Like the gray version, it is 4.5 inches wide and covers approximately 12 feet of refrigerant line. That gives homeowners multiple color choices instead of forcing every installation to use white. Why LineGuard is an excellent accessory LineGuard isn’t about changing the heating or cooling capacity of the system. It’s about creating a cleaner, more finished exterior installation while enclosing the line-set route. For homeowners who care about curb appeal, this is one accessory worth considering before installation day. MRCOOL H600-B Condenser Risers Sometimes the best place for a condenser isn’t directly against the mounting surface. The MRCOOL H600-B Condenser Risers provide another installation option. The set includes two rubber block-style condenser risers designed to elevate the outdoor unit. MRCOOL states that the risers are compatible with all MRCOOL side-discharge condensers. The rugged rubber construction is designed to help absorb vibration while elevating the condenser away from moisture, debris and potential airflow restrictions. The risers also include levelers to help achieve proper horizontal placement. H600-B specifications Model: H600-BType: Condenser RiserColor: BlackQuantity: Set of twoDimensions per supplied product data: 23.5” D × 6” W × 4” HNet weight: 24 lbs For customers looking for a straightforward way to elevate a side-discharge condenser, these are an accessory worth considering. 6. CoolGuard ACB-J02 Weldbracket for Side-Discharge Condensers For customers wanting more elevation, another option is the CoolGuard ACB-J02 Weldbracket. Despite the name, this should not be confused with a wall-mounting bracket. It is an elevated support platform for a side-discharge condenser. The stand is constructed from galvanized steel and cold-press steel and is designed to provide a stable elevated platform while helping maintain airflow beneath and around the equipment. ACB-J02 specifications Dimensions: 33.464” W × 15.748” D × 18.897” HWeight: 17.196 lbsMaximum supported weight: 220 lbsColor: White This can be particularly useful where additional condenser elevation is desired to help keep the equipment away from standing water, debris and other ground-level hazards. 7. CoolGuard EP04 Equipment Pad Not every installation needs the condenser elevated several inches or placed on a stand. Sometimes what you need is simply a solid, level base. The CoolGuard EP04 Equipment Pad measures: 18” W × 38” D × 3” H It is manufactured from recycled polypropylene and is designed to provide a stable base for HVAC equipment. The material is UV-resistant for outdoor exposure, and the pad weighs approximately 8.598 lbs. For side-discharge condenser installations, a properly selected equipment pad can help create a clean, stable foundation without placing the condenser directly on the ground. MRCOOL Condenser Wall-Mounting Kits Another installation option is mounting a compatible outdoor condenser to an appropriate wall structure. MRCOOL offers different brackets for different equipment sizes. MRCOOL MB176 The MB176 Condenser Wall Mounting Kit is identified for 9K–18K BTU MRCOOL ductless split-system condensers. Approximate net dimensions: 30.75” W × 18” D × 14.5” H Do not assume that because it is a MRCOOL bracket it fits a larger condenser. MRCOOL MB440A For larger equipment, MRCOOL offers the MB440A Condenser Wall Mounting Kit, identified as a mounting kit for 24K and 36K BTU MRCOOL ductless split-system condensers. This is exactly why accessory compatibility matters. 9K–18K → MB176 24K–36K → MB440A That does not establish either bracket as compatible with every MRCOOL condenser in those nominal ranges. Always verify the exact condenser model before ordering. 9. Equipment Pad, Risers, Stand or Wall Bracket? Customers often ask which one they need. They don’t all perform exactly the same job. Equipment Pad: Provides a stable base close to ground level. Rubber Risers: Elevate the condenser and can help isolate vibration. Elevated Condenser Stand: Provides considerably more ground clearance. Wall-Mounting Kit: Supports compatible equipment from an appropriate wall structure. Which approach makes sense depends on the condenser, installation location, climate, mounting surface, required clearances and local installation requirements. For example, areas that routinely experience snow accumulation may have different elevation considerations than warm-weather installations. 10. MRCOOL Mini-Stat MTSK02 Accessories aren’t limited to installation hardware. The MRCOOL Mini-Stat MTSK02 provides another way to interact with compatible MRCOOL mini split equipment. According to the product information you provided, features include: MRCOOL SmartHVAC® app control Amazon Alexa compatibility Google Assistant compatibility Vertical airflow adjustment Battery-saving mode The Mini-Stat measures approximately 4.33” × 4.33” × 1”. This is an excellent example of an accessory customers may not know exists when they initially purchase their system. Important compatibility note Don’t describe the Mini-Stat as universally compatible with every MRCOOL mini split. Verify compatibility with the customer’s exact indoor equipment before ordering. 11. Condensate Drain Accessories Cooling a room also removes moisture from the air. That condensate needs somewhere to go. Drainage planning should therefore happen before installation, particularly when dealing with ceiling-mounted equipment or installation locations where gravity drainage is difficult. Depending on the installation, additional condensate tubing, fittings or compatible condensate-management accessories may be required. Follow the installation requirements for the exact indoor unit. 12. Electrical & Surge Protection Accessories A MRCOOL DIY system may simplify the refrigerant side of installation, but that doesn’t eliminate electrical requirements. Depending on the system, electrical accessories can include: Disconnect equipment Properly sized conductors Circuit protection HVAC surge protection These need to be selected from the requirements of the exact outdoor condenser, not from a generic mini-split electrical kit. Cleaning & Maintenance Accessories Accessory sales don’t have to end once installation is complete. A mini split also needs ongoing maintenance. Filters, indoor coils, outdoor coils and surrounding areas need appropriate inspection and cleaning over the life of the equipment. Compatible cleaning products and maintenance accessories give existing MRCOOL owners a reason to return to MRCOOL DIRECT even after their original system purchase. Build Your MRCOOL Accessory Package Before Installation Day One of the easiest installation mistakes is ordering the main equipment and forgetting the small things needed to finish the job. Before placing your order, work through the installation one zone at a time. Refrigerant connections Do you have the correct line-set diameter and length for every indoor unit? Communication Does your line-set package already include the necessary communication cable, or is cable needed separately? Exterior finish Do you need white, gray or tan MRCOOL LineGuard? Condenser location Will the outdoor unit sit on a CoolGuard equipment pad, MRCOOL rubber risers, an elevated CoolGuard stand, or a compatible MRCOOL wall-mounting kit? Controls Is a compatible MRCOOL Mini-Stat something you want to add? Electrical Have the required disconnect, wiring, breaker and appropriate protection been planned? Maintenance Do you have what you’ll need to properly maintain the equipment after installation? Planning these items before the equipment arrives can make installation day considerably easier. Single-Zone vs Multi-Zone Accessory Planning This is where the blog can capture searches from both types of customers. With a Single-Zone system, you’re generally planning one indoor-to-outdoor equipment path. With a Multi-Zone system, accessory planning becomes more involved because several indoor units may have completely different installation routes. For example, a Multi-Zone home might require: Bedroom: shorter line setLiving room: longer line setUpstairs room: extended routingExterior wall: LineGuardOutdoor condenser: pad or risers That’s why Multi-Zone accessories should be planned zone by zone rather than simply ordering several identical accessory packages.   Frequently Asked Questions about MRCOOL Mini Split Accessories.
